La Malinche, or Doña Marina, was an Aztec woman who became an essential partner for Hernán Cortés in his conquest of the Aztec empire. Doña Marina's Aztec name was Malinalli, after her birthday. Cleary, she acted upon the significance of this day.
1-Cipactli is the first day of new tonalpohualli, or 260-day religious calendar. It is an excellent day for beginnings or celebrations like a singing feast (cuicuicaliztli). Today is even more special, since it is the first day of a new 52-year calendar round (xiuhmolpilli). It concludes the New Fire ceremony rituals.
